The Hindi-language biographical drama film “12th Fail”, set to be released in 2023, is produced, written, and directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. It is based on the non-fiction book of the same name by Anurag Pathak, published in 2019, which tells the inspiring true story of Manoj Kumar Sharma. Manoj Kumar Sharma, an Indian Police Service officer, manages to rise above dire poverty and achieve the position of an officer. Vikrant Massey portrays the lead character in the movie, alongside Medha Shankar, Anant V Joshi, Anshumaan Pushkar, and Priyanshu Chatterjee.

The movie “12th Fail” was released in cinemas on October 27, 2023. It received favorable reviews and unexpectedly achieved great success by earning more than ₹66 crore (US$8.3 million) worldwide, despite being made with a budget of ₹20 crore (US$2.5 million).

Born on July 3, 1975, in Bilgram, a small town in the Morena district of Madhya Pradesh state, is Manoj Sharma, an IPS officer. He stands at a height of 5 feet 9 inches and weighs sixty-five kilograms. At the age of 49, he has achieved great success in his career as an IPS officer. The name of his father was Shri Ramveer Sharma, who worked as a farmer. Throughout Manoj Sharma’s life, his mother has played a significant role and has supported him at every step. Coming from a modest background, he had to work hard to achieve his goals.

Manoj Sharma successfully completed his education at his local school and effortlessly cleared the eighth grade. Following this, he resorted to cheating in order to pass his ninth and tenth exams. Subsequently, he enrolled in Maharani Lakshmi Bai Government College of Excellence in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, where he also managed to pass his eleventh-grade exams. However, during the 12th exam, the SDM visited the examination center for supervision, leaving Manoj with no choice but to sit for the exam. Unfortunately, every student at that center was unsuccessful due to the teachers’ practice of encouraging us to copy answers from one another and even provide answers directly.

Following his involvement in cheating during the 12th exams, all students experience failure when DSP Dushyant Singh ceases to deceive. DSP Dushyant assists Manoj in rescuing his brother and advises him to abandon cheating. One year later, Manoj achieves outstanding grades in all of his exams and proceeds to pursue a B.A. degree in Hindi and History with the aim of becoming a DSP.

Unfortunately, his ambition to become a DSP is crushed when the government announces the suspension of the MPPSC exams for a period of three years.

Manoj Sharma Struggle to Become an IPS Officer

Despite facing multiple failures, Manoj Kumar Sharma made relentless efforts to clear the Civil Services exam. During this time, he developed feelings for Shraddha Joshi, who was also aspiring for the UKPSC. Eventually, Manoj moved in with Gauri Bhaiya and was encouraged to focus on his studies. However, he did not give up and continued to work hard. Finally, on his fourth attempt, he successfully passed the UPSC KA exam and achieved the 121st All India rank. After clearing the UKPSC as well, both Manoj and Shraddha were appointed as Deputy Collectors.

Pritam, who has not succeeded in any of his tests, feels jealous of Manoj and attempts to persuade his father to apply for the UPSC. Manoj, on the other hand, follows his dream and eventually fulfills it by becoming an IPS officer. He celebrates his marriage with his loved ones. Currently, Manoj Kumar Sharma holds the position of Additional Commissioner in Mumbai Police.
